ROGER BAKER, NWWS
He was born in England and came to the United States years ago. As a
child he was always interested in painting and still has his original Reeves
watercolor painting set, but he finally got serious about painting after
retiring about ten years ago.
He
is inspired by images that have great lighting and strong values. Most of his inspiration comes from nature,
especially as he has traveled extensively both locally and to various parts of
the world. He mostly paints from
photographs that he has taken during those travels, but will typically change
the lighting, values and often the composition in order to create a stronger
painting.
Being
an engineer by profession, painting gave him the opportunity to use the other
half of his brain and being retired from full time engineering he now has more
time to devote to painting which he finds to be a great retirement vocation, often
challenging, sometimes frustrating but ultimately always satisfying. He
is basically self-taught, but has taken some lessons from well know local
artists.
His
paintings are of various subjects including landscapes, locations and
portraits. He has had paintings juried into both the Northwest Watercolor
Society (NWWS) Open and Members shows, into both the EAFA Open and Members
shows, into the Bothell Live Arts Shows, into the Edmonds Arts Festival, Kenmore
Arts Festival and into the UNCLAD 2012 & 2016 shows. He participates in both the NWWS and EAFA
public art programs.
His
miniature paintings have been juried into the Edmonds Arts Festival, into the
Parkland Gallery annual miniature exhibitions in Kirkland, into the Edmonds
Gallery North small works show and into the Bothell Live Arts and Kenmore Arts
Show where he received honorable mentions.
He
is a Signature Member of the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) and is also a
member of Evergreen (formerly Eastside) Association of Fine Arts (EAFA).
His
paintings are in several private collections in the USA, Canada and the UK.
